El nexo de parentesco a que se refieren los ordinales 5°, 8° e inciso final del artículo 179 de la Constitución Nacional, sólo es causal de inhabilidad para la elección de Senador, si el empleado con autoridad política o civil la ejerce en todo el territorio nacional. No hay lugar a inhabilidad tratándose de parientes vinculados al servicio diplomático o consular.
