º . Objeto del Convenio; constitución de una Unión; sede de la Unión

El presente Convenio tiene como objeto reconocer y garantizar un derecho al obtentor de una variedad vegetal nueva o a su causahabiente (designado en adelante por la expresión "el obtentor") en las condiciones que se definen a continuación.

Los Estados parte del presente Convenio (denominados en adelante "Estados de la Unión") se constituyen en una Unión para la Protección de las Obtenciones Vegetales.

La sede de la Unión y de los órganos permanentes se establece en Ginebra.
