A partir del 1º de enero de 1987, la Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil asumirá gradualmente el registro del estado civil de las personas. Los notarios y demás funcionarios encargados de esa función, continuarán prestándola hasta cuando de ella se hagan cargo los Registradores o sus delegados, según determinación del Registrador del Estado Civil.
