Serán funciones del Investigador de Lingüística Colombiana estudiar e investigar las lenguas y dialectos de las civilizaciones aborígenes de Colombia, elaborar gramáticas modernas de dichas lenguas y dialectos, basadas en textos recogidos por dicho Investigador en los lugares donde se hablan unas y otros, y, finalmente, hacer ediciones críticas de gramáticas, vocabularios, catecismos, sermonarios de las lenguas indígenas y escritos por escritores antiguos.
