Ley 1242 de 2008 · por la cual se establece el Código Nacional de Navegación y Actividades Portuarias Fluviales y se dictan otras disposiciones.

Para que pueda ponerse en servicio una embarcación debe estar provista de patente de navegación previa inspección técnica. La patente de navegación para embarcaciones mayores, tendrá validez de tres (3) años; su expedición y revalidación se hará por la dependencia asignada por el Ministerio de Transporte en su jurisdicción. Para las embarcaciones menores será de dos (2) años.

Parágrafo

El propietario, armador o su representante debe solicitar la revalidación de la Patente con una antelación mínima de treinta (30) días calendario a la fecha de su vencimiento.
