La Corporación Autónoma Regional del río Grande de la Magdalena, Cormagdalena, desarrollará actividades relacionadas con la recuperación, rehabilitación, preservación y adecuado aprovechamiento del río Magdalena para el mejoramiento de la navegabilidad y promoción del desarrollo sostenible de los municipios ribereños, en los términos de lo dispuesto en la Ley 161 de 1994.
