El Control fiscal de las Áreas Metropolitanas formadas por municipios de un mismo departamento corresponderá a la Contraloría Departamental. Si los municipios pertenecen a varios departamentos el ejercicio de ese control será de la Contraloría General de la República, en los términos de la ley.
