Art. 2.º En la parte principal del pedestal se grabara esta inscripción:

"La República de Colombia, en testimonio de gratitud y admiración al insigne guerrero".

Y en la parte opuesta, esta otra:

"El Gran Mariscal Antonio José de Sucre selló la Independencia de cinco naciones con la gloriosa batalla de Ayacucho, el día 9 de Diciembre de 1824."
