° Entiéndese por departamento la unidad dependiente de una facultad o escuela que cultiva una o varías disciplinas afines, imparte docencia y adelanta investigación en cada una de ellas. El Departamento puede prestar servicios académicos a una o varias facultades o escuelas. El jefe es la primera autoridad ejecutiva del Departamento y ejerce sus funciones bajo la dirección del decano de la respectiva facultad.
