Son funciones del Subdirector del Instituto Nacional de Salud, las siguientes

Reemplazar al Director en sus ausencias temporales.

Asistir al director en la orientación, coordinación y control de las labores del Instituto.

Proyectar conjuntamente con los jefes de las Subdivisiones, los programas de trabajo para ser discutidos con el Director.

Programar los cursos de adiestramiento y capacitación de personal, y responder por su desarrollo.

Hacer un programa tendiente a coordinar las actividades del Instituto con las de entidades afines.
