La pena a quienes cometan el delito de calumnia definido en el artículo 333 del Código Penal, será de seis meses a tres años de arresto, además de la multa de $ 100.00 a $ 2.000.00, señalada en dicho artículo. Pero el procesado podrá solicitar, tanto en el caso del artículo 333 como en el del 334 del mismo Código, que se le conmute el arresto, o parte de él, por una sanción pecuniaria de dos pesos por cada día, a favor del calumniado, sin perjuicio de la indemnización civil a que haya lugar.
