ORIGEN Y CATEGORÍAS. La medalla por tiempo de servicio fue creada por Decreto 1040 de 1929, y reglamentada por los Decretos números 1898 de 1949, 805 de 1952 y 1925 de 1969, como reconocimiento al tiempo de servicio continuo o discontinuo como Oficial o Suboficial de las Fuerzas Militares. Ostenta las siguientes categorías

a)

Medalla de quince (15) años de servicio;

b)

Medalla de veinte (20) años de servicio;

c)

Medalla de veinticinco (25) años de servicio;

d)

Medalla de treinta (30) años de servicio;

e)

Medalla de treinta y cinco (35) años de servicio, solamente para Oficiales.
