NATURALEZA, FINES Y CATEGORÍAS. La Medalla Servicios Distinguidos "a la Infantería de Marina" se crea para estimular el Cuerpo de Infantería de Marina a fin de premiar a quienes hayan sobresalido en actividades propias de la especialidad así como al personal militar o civil y a entidades o instituciones oficiales o particulares, nacionales o extranjeros que hayan prestado eminentes servicios al Cuerpo de Infantería de Marina. Ostenta una sola categoría.
