ORIGEN. La condecoración "Servicios Distinguidos en Orden Público" fue creada por Decreto número 803 de 1952 y reglamentada por los Decretos números 55 de 1963 (enero 11) y 581 de 1975 (marzo 31), con el fin de recompensar a los miembros de las Fuerzas Militares que, prestando sus servicios en Orden Público, en funciones del mismo sobresalgan por una acción distinguida de valor, fuera del común cumplimiento del deber.
