Cada condecoración tiene un diploma credencial firmado por el Presidente de la República y el Ministro de Defensa Nacional, del tenor siguiente: "El Presidente de Colombia, en nombre de la República y en vista del expediente creado por el Ministerio de Defensa, de acuerdo con la Ley 40 de 1913 y de la aprobación de las honorables Cámaras legislativas al decreto provisional dictado por el Poder Ejecutivo, con fecha... confiere la Cruz de San Mateo de Primera (Segunda o Tercera) Clase al........... en recompensa de su valor (o servicios eminentes, según el caso), como la más alta distinción que en memoria del heroico Capitán Antonio Ricaurte, concede Colombia a sus servidores más meritorios". SECCIÓN "B" Medalla por "Servicios en Guerra Internacional ".
