Las Asambleas Departamentales, en ejercicio de la atribución que se les confiere por el artículo anterior, no podrán introducir variaciones en los nombres antiguos, indígenas o históricos. La disposición de este artículo no impide que a los nombres indígenas o históricos se puedan anteponer o añadir otros por razón de distinción u otra respetable de conveniencia pública.
