De conformidad con el artículo 305 del Decreto - Ley 2811 de 1974 y con el artículo 38 del Decreto número 133 de 1976, al Instituto Nacional de los Recursos Naturales Renovables y del Ambiente -INDERENA-, en virtud de sus facultades policivas, corresponde velar por el cumplimiento de las disposiciones del Código Nacional de los Recursos Naturales Renovables y de Protección al Medio Ambiente, y de las demás normas legales sobre la materia. Igualmente hará uso de los demás medios de policía necesarios para la vigilancia y defensa de los recursos naturales renovables y del ambiente, y determinará cuáles de sus funcionarios tienen facultades policivas.
