El Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales, Ideam, es el responsable de la ejecución y actualización del Inventario Forestal Nacional, con base en los lineamientos que fije el Ministerio de Ambiente, Vivienda y Desarrollo Territorial, en coordinación con el Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural y las Corporaciones Autónomas Regionales y de Desarrollo Sostenible.
