El control fiscal y de gestión de las Áreas Metropolitanas corresponde a la Contraloría Departamental donde se encuentran los municipios que la conforman y en caso de que comprendan municipios de varios departamentos, lo ejercerá la Contraloría Departamental del municipio "núcleo".
