El empleado a quien sobreviniere enfermedad que lo inhabilite temporalmente para trabajar, tendrá derecho, por el tiempo que aquella enfermedad dure, a un auxilio mensual equivalente a la mitad del último sueldo que hubiere devengado, siempre que este tiempo no pase de seis (6) meses. Para tener derecho a esta gracia, se requiere que el empleado haya servido en los ramos de que trata esta Ley un (1) año cuando menos, inmediatamente antes de sobrevenirle la enfermedad, o que esta haya sido provocada por motivo o con ocasión del desempeño de sus funciones.
