La Nación colombiana rinde homenaje de veneración y respecto a la memoria del eximio patricio General Gabriel Vargas Santos, exalta la austera vida llena de merecimientos, las nobles virtudes ciudadanas y las constantes desinteresadas luchas por el predominio de la democracia, de que dio ejemplo ese ilustre ciudadano, como dignas de reconocimiento y aplauso de la posteridad, y señala su ejemplo de abnegación y sacrificio por el bien de la república, a la justiciera consagración de la historia.
