Origen y Categorías . Creada mediante Decreto 2423 del 22 de julio de 1950 y reglamentada por el Decreto 805 del 27 de marzo de 1952, con destino a señalar y recompensar los actos de heroísmo, los servicios eminentes, los trabajos de investigación científica, el espíritu militar y el compañerismo de los miembros de la Sanidad Militar Colombiana. La condecoración ostenta las categorías enunciadas en el artículo 53 del presente decreto.
