A partir del primero ( 1° ) de enero del año de 1962 se nacionaliza el Colegio Oriental de Bachillerato que viene funcionando como Colegio Departamental en el Municipio de Santo Tomás, Departamento del Atlántico, Colegio cuyo sostenimiento se debe exclusivamente a los fondos de dicho Departamento. A partir de la fecha citada, la Nación se hará cargo de su orientación pedagógica, dotación, sostenimiento y todos los demás elementos que se hagan indispensables para el buen servicio que se persigue.
