Los funcionarios del servicio exterior, pertenezcan o no a la Carrera Diplomática y Consular, no podrán permanecer fuera del país por más de cuatro años continuos. Cumplido este período, respecto al funcionario escalafonado el Gobierno dispondrá su traslado al servicio interno del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores. El funcionario deberá laborar en el servicio interno por un mínimo de dos años antes de ser nombrado o trasladado nuevamente al exterior.
