Las Ordenes del Mérito Militar, Naval, Aeronáutico y Sanitario, se conferirán con el fin de señalar y recompensar a los miembros de las Fuerzas Militares que hayan sobresalido por sus virtudes militares, conducta intachable, compañerismo, consagración al trabajo, rendimiento en la instrucción, en el desarrollo de tareas de Estado Mayor, trabajos de investigación científica y servicios eminentes.
