Desde el punto de vista de la codificación actual, se dividen las leyes en tres grupos: Códigos nacionales, leyes de carácter general y leyes de carácter especial.

Al primer grupo corresponden los siguientes Códigos: el Civil, el de Comercio Terrestre, el de Comercio Marítimo, el de Minas, el Fiscal, el Penal, el Militar y el judicial.
