El periodo de los miembros de la Junta Directiva, con excepción del de los miembros y del director de la Policía Nacional es de dos años, y podrán ser reelegidos indefinidamente. El primer periodo se inicia el día en que el Instituto comience a funcionar, y todos los periodos sucesivos tendrán la misma fecha de iniciación. Se entiende que el Instituto comenzó a funcionar el día en que se posesiono de su cargo el Director General del mismo.
