°. Definicion. Las áreas metropolitanas son entidades autorizadas por la Constitución y organizadas por la ley, para la más adecuada promoción, planificación y coordinación del desarrollo conjunto y la prestación de servicios de dos o más municipios de un mismo departamento, dotadas de personería jurídica, autoridades y régimen especiales, autonomía administrativa y patrimonio independiente.
