En adelante la Medalla Militar "Alas Doradas", creada mediante Decreto 1834 de 1998, se denominará Medalla Militar "San Miguel Arcángel", en categoría única, creada para estimular y premiar a quienes se hayan caracterizado por su consagración al trabajo, disciplina, colaboración y actos de valor en el desempeño de sus funciones en el Arma de la Aviación del Ejército, o aquellas personas, entidades públicas o privadas que presten servicios meritorios en beneficio de la Aviación del Ejército.
