La Bacteriología es una profesión de nivel superior universitario con formación social, humanística, científica e investigativa cuyo campo de acción se desarrolla fundamentalmente en las áreas de promoción de la salud, prevención, diagnóstico, pronóstico y seguimiento de la enfermedad, vigilancia epidemiológica y el aseguramiento de la calidad, el desarrollo biotecnológico, la investigación básica y aplicada, la administración y docencia relacionadas con la carrera, la dirección científicayla coordinación del laboratorio y los bancos de sangre.
