Los notarios públicos y los demás funcionarios encargados del registro civil de las personas enviarán a la Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil, por conducto de los respectivos Registradores, copia auténtica o autenticada de los registros civiles de defunción, dentro de los cinco (5) primeros días de cada mes para que se cancelen las cédulas de ciudadanía correspondientes a las personas fallecidas. El funcionario que incumpliere esta obligación, incurrirá en causal de mala conducta que se sancionará con la pérdida del empleo.
