ASCENSO A CORONEL. Para ascender al grado de Coronel, el Gobierno escogerá libremente entre los Tenientes Coroneles que hayan sido seleccionados por el Comité de Ascenso de los Oficiales Superiores con aprobación de la Junta Asesora de la Dirección General de la Policía, de acuerdo con los requisitos establecidos en el presente estatuto. Los Tenientes Coroneles que no fueren diplomados en Academia Superior de Policía, para ascender al grado de Coronel deberán presentar, sustentar y aprobar una tesis ante la Dirección General de la Policía, sobre un tema previamente señalado por ésta.
