Las embarcaciones mayores cuyos dueños quieran tener respecto de ellas los derechos y las obligaciones correspondientes por leyes o tratados a los buques nacionales mercantes, deberán:

1º Ser registradas en uno de los puertos de la República, habilitados al efecto;

2º Tener una patente o documento que compruebe su nacionalidad; y

3º Llevar la bandera colombiana.
