Los Alcaldes podrán organizar el servicio de Policía Cívica Local, como una actividad de colaboración a las funciones de policía administrativa, con carácter permanente, voluntaria, no remunerada, sujeta a su inmediata dirección y bajo la coordinación y el control de la Policía Nacional, de conformidad con el estatuto básico que expida la Dirección General de la misma.
