La presente ley tiene por objeto exaltar al territorio del desaparecido Armero y declararlo como Bien de Interés Cultural de la Nación y reconocer al volcán Nevado del Ruiz como parte del patrimonio natural, por su valor simbólico, ambiental y parte de un ecosistema esencial para la vida que ordena el territorio alrededor del agua en los departamentos de Tolima, Caldas, Risaralda y Quindío y se dictan otras disposiciones.
