El Estado reconoce el turismo de salud y promoverá su desarrollo como turismo interno y receptivo, entendido este como aquel al que acuden nacionales o extranjeros en el territorio nacional a fin de someterse a un procedimiento médico, quirúrgico u odontológico acreditado, accesible con garantías de seguridad y de alta calidad. El gobierno se encargará de incluir dentro del Plan Sectorial de Turismo directrices y programas de apoyo específicos para esta modalidad de turismo, incluidos programas de divulgación de la oferta.
