Artículo tercero. Además de los casos en que, conforme a los estatutos del Instituto Colombiano de Seguros Sociales, el Gerente General puede ser destituido por el Presidente de la República a solicitud del Consejo Directivo y la destitución podrá efectuarse sin que medie tal solicitud cuando, a juicio del Presidente de la República, existan motivos que la justifiquen. En los casos de destitución del Gerente General del Instituto, el Presidente de la República nombrará un interino mientras el Consejo Directivo elabora la terna y la presenta para la escogencia del Gerente titular.
