A rtículo 23. Subdirección Operativa de Tránsito y Seguridad Vial. La Subdirección Operativa de Tránsito y Seguridad Vial cumplirá las siguientes funciones

1.

Ejecutar la política del Gobierno Nacional en materia de regulación y control en tránsito terrestre automotor a nivel nacional, de conformidad con los lineamientos establecidos por el Ministro de Transporte.

2.

Clasificar, reclasificar los organismos de tránsito. Suprimir los permisos que les hayan sido otorgados.

3.

Dirigir y coordinar los estudios sobre seguridad vial en el transporte terrestre automotor.

4.

Dirigir y coordinar con los organismos de tránsito la expedición de la placa única nacional, las licencias de conducción y demás especies venales. Para el efecto deberá asignarles las series, rangos y nomenclaturas correspondientes.

5.

Llevar directamente o mediante contratación los registros que sean necesarios para el cumplimiento de sus funciones.

6.

Las demás que le sean asignadas y correspondan a la naturaleza de la dependencia.
