ARTICULO 501 . Comunicación de la sentencia . Ejecutoriada la sentencia que imponga una pena o medida de seguridad, el juez enviará copia auténtica de la misma a la Dirección General de Prisiones, a la Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil, a la Procuraduría General de la Nación y demás organismos que tengan funciones de policía judicial y cuenten con archivos sistematizados. El Director Nacional de Prisiones señalará el establecimiento carcelario o de internación siquiátrica donde el condenado deba cumplir la pena o las medidas de seguridad.
