Corresponde al Fiscal General de la Nación por si o por Medio de sus Agentes, iniciar y adelantar la investigación de los delitos de competencia de los órganos jurisdiccionales penales comunes y asegurar la comparecencia de los presuntos infractores al proceso, todo ello con arreglo a este Código y a la Ley Orgánica de la Fiscalía.
