Si el fiador no cumpliere con la obligación de presentar al procesado dentro del término señalado por el juez, incurrirá en multa de cien a quinientos pesos, que le impondrá el juez o funcionario del conocimiento y que será convertible en arresto, en la forma indicada en el artículo 697. Dicha multa o el arresto correspondiente no se harán efectivos en el caso de que el fiador pague el valor de la caución o presente bienes suficientes para el pago de la misma, dentro de los treinta días siguientes al en que se le hubiere ordenado presentar al procesado.
