Origen y Categorías . Creada mediante la Ley número 40 de 1913 y reglamentada por el Decreto número 349 de 1914, está destinada a exaltar a los miembros de las Fuerzas Militares que en defensa de la patria hayan prestado servicios eminentes o ejecutado actos heroicos y de valor. Ostenta tres (3) categorías

Cruz de Primera Clase;

Cruz de Segunda Clase;

Cruz de Tercera Clase.
