Cuando el monto de las utilidades líquidas obtenidas en un ejercicio no fuere suficiente para pagar el dividendo preferencial, el saldo se deberá acumular al dividendo que corresponda hasta por los tres ejercicios anuales subsiguientes. Los estatutos sociales podrán disponer un período de acumulación mayor. Para este efecto el saldo deberá pagarse con cargo al primer ejercicio anual subsiguiente en el cual existan utilidades suficientes.
