La Junta Directiva del Archivo General de la Nación, sin perjuicio del derecho de propiedad y siguiendo el procedimiento que se establezca para el efecto, podrá declarar de interés cultural los documentos privados de carácter histórico. Estos formará parte del patrimonio documental colombiano y en consecuencia serán de libre acceso.
