Las actividades de transferencia de conocimientos que a nivel internacional debe promover el Instituto Geográfico "Agustín Codazzi" se pueden desarrollar, además de los acuerdos de cooperación entre gobiernos, a través de la participación de esta entidad como asesora, consultora y prestataria de servicios, mediante la contratación internacional, para la realización de todas o algunas de las funciones del Instituto. Las actividades a nivel internacional deben ponerse previamente en conocimiento del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, para dar cumplimiento al numeral 5 del artículo 1º del Decreto 2126 de 1992.
