º. Objeto y funciones . El Instituto Colombiano de Energía Eléctrica, ICEL E.S.P., tendrá por objeto ejecutar las actividades relacionadas con la generación, transmisión, distribución y comercialización de energía eléctrica en las zonas no interconectadas del país que no estén asignadas a otras entidades del sector eléctrico. El Instituto podrá ejecutar directamente tales actividades o a través de entidades estatales, comunidades organizadas o particulares, en los términos previstos en las leyes.
