El Instituto Colombiano de la Juventud y el Deporte, creado mediante Decreto 2743 de 1968, continuará teniendo el carácter de establecimiento público del orden nacional y se denominará Instituto Colombiano del Deporte, Coldeportes, con Personería Jurídica, autonomía administrativa y patrimonio independiente, adscrito al Ministerio de Educación Nacional.
