La Ley 418 de 1997 , prorrogada por la Ley 548 de 1999 , tendrá un artículo nuevo del siguiente tenor:

Artículo nuevo. Los servidores públicos de elección popular y sus familias, cuyas vidas se encuentren en peligro inminente debidamente comprobado por las autoridades competentes, serán atendidos por el Ministerio del Interior y Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores para facilitar los mecanismos de protección que consagra el Derecho Internacional Humanitario.

Las diligencias de protección, asilo político, obtención de residencia, entre otros, serán asumidas prioritariamente por las autoridades colombianas.
