Como demostración de gratitud nacional se levantara en el cementerio de esta ciudad un monumento de mármol que guardara los restos del mencionado General, y un retrato suyo, al óleo, se colocara en el salón principal del Ministerio de Guerra. Tanto el monumento como el retrato tendrán la siguiente inscripción:
"Al General Arístides Fernández.
La Nación agradecida."
