El fomento, la planificación, la organización, la coordinación, la ejecución, la implantación, la vigilancia y el control de la actividad del deporte, la recreación, el aprovechamiento del tiempo libre y la educación física constituyen una función del Estado que ejercerá el Ministerio de Educación Nacional por conducto del Instituto Colombiano del Deporte - Coldeportes.
